Live Little Stories for Leeds
During a time of uncertainty of live performance because of COVID-19, we came together with Leeds based organisations and artists to create a live performance day for families across Leeds. Along with our partners Tutti Frutti, Slung Low, Unlimited, Wrongsemble, 154 Collective, Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah, Alive and Kicking Theatre, Fidget Theatre and many other freelance artists and creatives we created a day of live theatre and storytelling across multiple sites in Leeds on 30th July 2020.
What happened was a day of enjoyment and excitement between artists and family audiences, socially distanced and safety prioritised experiences but a pioneering project during such a period of physically cultural desolation.
Interplay Theatre was home to 154 Collective’s, ‘The Adventures of Walter Lemonface’ and Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah’s, ‘Mustacha’s Apprentice’, both performed in the outdoor garden area of Interplay Theatre’s garden area in Armley, Leeds. By staggering 13 family/household audiences over time slots across the day, Interplay Theatre hosted performances and interactive workshops throughout the day for local families which booked to incredible demand, initially selling out in just 4 hours!
What is evident is that audiences and familes are excited to return to live performances in their community and thanks to funding by Leeds 2023 the day of performances was able to be offered to local families completely free of charge.
