Family Day sees several events united to provide a day of excitement for our younger Leeds International Festival guests.
Expect fascinating science experiments and get hands-on and creative in our workshops, and don’t forget your dancing shoes!
Eureka! the National Children’s Museum will be looking skywards, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, and the Conductor experience will get you donning a virtual reality headset to bring a forest of trees to life.
Get hands-on and make a fridge magnet or pendant with Plastic is Fantastic, a workshop looking at the diverse uses of plastic, and the future of safe plastic for the planet.
Come and listen and dance to the happy grooves of mambo, pachanga, chachacha and Latin soul with the UK’s only full charanga orchestra, Charanga del Norte!
Find out even more about being planet-friendly with Bloom! York’s Bee Story workshop, which will be investigating the importance of bees and other pollinators. Create your own bee, flower and honeycomb hexagon, and leave one behind to be part of our big-scale collage – in return, take home some bee-friendly flower seeds to scatter in your flowerbeds!
Alongside these action-packed activities will be the well-known family raves of Boomchikkaboom, with their glitter bar and all manner of fun activities, whilst Music and Love Band, created by Khula Arts, provide high-energy songs filled with African instruments like the balafon and kora, inspired by the townships of Zimbabwe. Celebrate the rich diversity of the world through the joy of sharing music – and take part in a Khula Arts one-hour drumming workshop as a fun introduction to African music and drum rhythms!
